Early Reader  con’t

Select words that children understand: for instance a
young child might not know what a lasso is, but he will
understand what a rope is.  You need to consider the
words you use. Make sure the words can be “sounded
out” by a new reader.
Parents like books that teach children a life lesson
or educate them about a subject. They are more likely
to choose a book that deals with a topic or morality.
Teachers like books that are simple and include
repetitive phrases that help children learn to read.
They also like books that can easily have activities
attached.
Rhyming also makes a book easier to read, but one is
more difficult to write. Consider both options before
making a decision to rhyme.
You may have several objectives in writing a book.
Some might include having a life lesson, teaching
about a particular subject matter, or creating a simple
craft activity that integrates with the story. All of
these ideas are admirable goals, but don’t try to be
everything to everyone in one short book. Too many
objectives can diminish the effectiveness of your main
purpose.
As a writer, the most important thing is to enjoy the
writing process. The more pleasure for you, the better
the end product will be.
Take those ideas bouncing around in your head and get
started on your book.
